Program Description

Event Details

Many Illinoisans are not aware that, a thousand years ago, a major Native American civilization began here. Cahokia, a city just across the river from St. Louis, was the origin for what came to be known as the Mississippians and grew to be larger than London was at the time. William Kelley, president of the South Suburban Archaeological Society, tells us about the profound impact this had on the rest of Native American society up to contact with Europeans.
